Review: Ideal No Calorie Sweetner sugar baking substitute

Looking for a lower carb sugar replacement and bake mix with the amazingness of xylitol and the ability to simply measure and pour? Look no further than Ideal No Calorie Sweetener–this stuff is absolutely fabulous.

Combining xylitol with maltodextrin (a polysaccharide and additive) and sucralose, this bake mix is simple to use. Just sub exactly like sugar! And because each bag contains the sweetness equivalent to two pounds of sugar, you’re not going to run out of the sweet stuff anytime soon.

I used the sweetener to make this decadent pumpkin cheesecake and was incredibly pleased with the ‘sweet’. It’s not obnoxious, not like artificial sweeteners can be. In a world filled with Lady Gaga flipping the finger from Jerry Seinfeld’s baseball seats, this sweetener flips its Beiber hair and says it’s all good (or whatever those young, fresh-faced hipsters are saying these days).

With .4 net carbs per tsp or 12 net carbs per cup–which, if you think about it–ain’t half bad, the product prides itself on being over 99% natural by volume, something people following a healthy, whole foods lifestyle can appreciate.

Final word: I love this sweetening product, and I’ll be seeking it out in stores like a Real Orange County Bravo Housewife hunts down restylane.

  2. But please, beware! Maltodextrin is a high energy carbohydrate that breaks down to glucose..

  3. Put please, beware! Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide meaning it consists of carbohydrates, in this case glucose, and breaks down to glucose, elevating blood sugar as it goes. It is used to supply fast cabohydrates to give e.g. runners more stamina

    Check how much carohydrates hide in this "ideal" thing

    Definitely! I do mention the carb amount there from the stuff after removing the SA carbs from xylitol. It's not carb free–it's just lower carb.

Check out Facebook page Maltodextrin Intolerance Awareness to find out why the chlorine, acetone, & formaldehyde that maltodextrin, sucralose, and other artificial sweeteners are manufactured with are causing those of use with an intolerance to maltodextrin to live in the bathroom or eat only whole foods! Ever seen the statement that excessive consumption can have a laxative effect? Well for many of us, it doesn't take excessive consumption. And in finding out why, I found out far more than I really was interested in knowing about these artificial sweeteners, things that the manufacturers and advertising agencies really don't want consumers to know. Marketing is a sweet deal. Take a child to the store and their eyes light up – SO MANY wonderful things to buy! I would tell my kids that the manufacturers want everything to look wonderful so we will buy them. They want it all to look sweet – and sweeten the deal. Good luck with it.

    I totally agree that if you have an intolerance to any food to avoid it for sure. I'm an avoider of aspartame for that reason. Thankfully there are multiple options available for people who need new solutions!

    Jamie, I've bought plain xylitol before, and I found the taste to be "icy" like in gums. Did you find this not to be the case with Ideal and baking?

    Also, what about erythritol? I also bought some of this, and while it's not as sweet as sugar, it's the same stuff in Truvia with the stevia. Definitely tasted more 'sugar-like' than xylitol.
