Preview: Lindt Excellence 90% Cocoa Supreme Dark

Not your mama’s chocolate bar

Lindt is a leader in the industry with its sumptuous, delicious chocolates. The higher the cocoa content and the lower the sugar, the less impact on insulin their bars tend to contain; so when I was able to score one of their 90% cocoa bars, we grabbed it and ran.

If you’re looking for the ultimate in dark chocolate with minimal sugar impact, you’ll be hard pressed to find a chocolate bar more up to the task than the Lindt Excellence 90% Cocoa Supreme Dark. At only 7 net carbs for 4 generous-sized squares, this product can be used (and sweetened) essentially for any occasion.

Ingredients are simple: chocolate, cocoa butter, cocoa powder, sugar, natural bourbon and vanilla beans.

Nothing you can’t pronounce and hell– between chocolate, which is know to have feel-good brain chemicals along with bourbon, those family members (or co-workers) who drive you to drink might bug you a little bit less after you’ve enjoyed a few bites of this bar. No, it won’t make your neighbors more attractive, but it might make them more manageable.

The flavor of this bar is definitely bittersweet with wood undertones. If you’ve been without sweet for a very long time, no doubt this chocolate is going to hit those taste buds and provide just the right amount of high octane chocolate with minimal sugar intrusion.

If, on the other hand, you’ve been partaking in sweets frequently, don’t kid yourself– this bar is not going to taste like the dark, sweet chocolate to which you are accustomed. But factor in its lack of soy, its brand quality and its less than 2 net carbs per generous-sized square, and you have the perfect makings for a moment of solace, a ganache or the base of a delicious, sin free fondue.

And if you want to put hair on your chest, try their even more no-nonsense 99% cocoa bar with hints of tobacco.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to work my way up to the 99% bar. I've been enjoying Endangered Species Extreme Dark Chocolate at 88% and plan to get a supply of Lindt's 90% soon.

  2. Steve Parker, M.D. says:

It's a surprisingly good source of fiber, too.

  3. Marjorie says:

Lindt 70% is my current fave. 90% is definitely dark. Meijer stores in MI have the bars for $2.19

  4. Uh, it's probably Bourbon vanilla, which has no connection to the whiskey apart from name.

  5. Patience says:

When I first tried this, it was a little bitter for me. Once I cut out grains most all sugar, this no longer tasted bitter but just the right amount of sweet. I've been eating it for a while, and I once accidentally grabbed the next level down (70%) and I could hardly stand how sweet it seemed to me.

  6. They make one with chili that I love! Ya, I know it sounds weird but if you like a little heat give it a try.

  7. DishyFishy says:

I love the 99% Lindt chocolate.

4 gr carb, 3 gr fibre, 25 gr fat, 7 gr protein, 50 gr of chocolate heaven!

Just 2 squares (out of 21 in the whole bar) really hits the spot.=)
