Powerful, super easy to use (and to clean, and perfect for sitting on my counter tops at all time without hogging needed real estate, the appliance has won me over.
In fact, if I was to write a Valentine to my Blendtec blender, it would say something like, “Dear blender; Let’s mix it up together. Be Mine.” And then there would be the requisite xoxoxoxo’s that besmooch the tall, dark and handsome beast of a machine.
If I was to send a similar greeting of love to the brand-new BlendTec Twister Jar, I would say,
“I made almond butter, mayonnaise
And give this blender plenty praise
To boot, so glad I never dissed her,
Because I’ve learned to love my Twister.”
A poem for a great innovation, the Twister Jar deserves a little more zhoozh, at least partly because this brand new, swank attachment from Blendtec is hard-core fantastic.
What blows me away about this addition to the Blendtec is that it handles thick solids and liquids and is still easy to use. In fact, this device is downright decisive; you’re going to make the meanest milkshakes, the goodest (OK, not a word) guacamoles, and the nummiest nut butters you ever could have hoped for–and without a wimpy motor overheating, or a lack of mixed ingredients stuck to the sides and corners that tends to plague other blenders.
What are those splines, you might ask?
Those solid beauties are turned to clean off the sides of the jar in order to incorporate what is typically stuck to the sides when working with thick ingredients, thanks to the Twister Lid. Simply use the lid with the Blendtec by holding the lid and turning it counter-clockwise, opposite from the direction the blade is spinning.
In fact, the lid is specifically designed for the accompanying 32 liquid ounce jar, the Twister Gripper Lid (for cleaning and smaller recipe amounts), and their monster spatula I’d buy all day long (my old ones always fall apart). The name of their spatula is even sexy: Spectacula.
As with the Blendtec blender, this amazing device also comes complete with a mini cookbook of 28 pages of recipes. With the Twister, you can make: nut butters, mayonnaise, pizza dough, guacamole, smoothies, pie crusts, veggie burgers, pastas and more.
In fact, I have never had good luck–ever— with making my own mayonnaise.
I’ve tried making it in every blender I have ever owned and always ended up with a substance so vile, I felt like I was sniffing paint by whiffing it. So when I decided to put this implement through its paces, what was the first thing was that I tried?
Heh! You guessed it! Mayonnaise.
Am I a tough customer or what? But guess what. For the first time ever, my mayonnaise didn’t fail. Not only did it not fail, it tastes absolutely delicious.
Gah! Undone again by a machine I tried to outsmart. I can almost sense the smug mug of the Blendtec sitting there on the counter, arms folded casually behind its head, legs kicked out and saying in a sweet, unaffected voice, “I told you.”
You did, Blentec. Well played, Blentec, well played.
And with a warranty of 3 years on just this Twister Jar alone, you know it’ll be around for a lot of batches of mayonnaise.
Zippy Blender Mayonnaise Whip
2 egg yolks
2 Tbsp sugar equivalent substitute
1 tsp white vinegar
1/4 tsp sea salt
3/4 cup peanut (or other) oil
Add egg yolks, sweetener, vinegar, salt, and 1/4 cup oil to the Twister jar and secure the lid. At a sped of 2, pulse for 10-15 seconds. Remove the center insert of the lid and gently drizzle a slow stream of the rest of the oil over the next 30 seconds.
