*Reduce your exposure to toxins– Every day we are exposed to harmful toxins. They can be found in everything from beauty products, cleaning supplies, to cookware and even the air we breath! We are also getting these toxins from processed foods, fried, and non organic foods; alcohol; medications and more. Toxins can accumulate over time and damage our DNA, and impair critical biological functions.
Choose natural foods and non toxic products whenever possible to help reduce exposure to toxins. It is also very important to make sure that your home and work environments are properly ventilated. Crack windows for fresh air when possible! Having a food allergy test or try the elimination diet to see if you are sensitive to common allergic foods is a smart move.
*Alkalize your diet– Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables that are high in alkalizing minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Avocados and dry beans are good sources of potassium. Green leafy vegetables and chard are packed with calcium.
Other alkaling food sources include chlorophyll and powered “green foods” supplements. There are many powered greens, so try a couple out to see which works best for you. There is also a highly alkaline umeboshi plum paste. I lived in Japan and this is very commonly used and know for its health benefits. Alkaline diets can aid in the removal of toxins and it will boost overall health and energy levels!
*Stay hydrated– Dehydration can lead to inflammation, which increases toxicity. If you are feeling thirsty, you are already pretty dehydrated! Drink plenty of pure water and green tea to help flush toxins from the body and keep your natural detoxing functions working properly. When you are hydrated it helps all of your body’s systems function smoothly.
*Get moving– Moderate exercise on a regular basis helps keep the lymphatic system moving. Exercise increases circulation and improves immune responses. Movement also helps in releasing physical, emotional, and psychological energies that may leave us feeling sluggish if we didn’t get going. Exercise keeps me sane! I have time to clear my mind and think things through. Try to walk 15 minutes with a friend or your dog every day. This can offer powerful benefits for detoxification and overall health to start, but ideally you need to work up to 60 min of moderate exercise five days a week.
