BOONVILLE, Indiana First Lady Michelle Obama today announced an ambitious national goal of solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight and unveiled a nationwide campaign – Let’s Move – to help achieve it.
In addition to her physical fitness movement, Mrs. Obama unveiled the next step, predicated on a diet plan which may have ruffled feathers in the past and leaving people crying fowl: The lower carbohydrate diet.
“The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake,” said Mrs. Obama. “This isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. Eating more bacon is the first step in ensuring obesity doesn’t continue as an ongoing issue.”
Recent studies are sharing the positive, lasting effects of low carbohydrate diet, including a recent University of Alabama study which shares that higher protein breakfasts held study participants over longer than higher carbohydrate choices.
And more politicians are taking notice. Hillary Clinton surprised an audience on Ellen recently when asked about her favorite protein. Denying she was a breast girl, the Secretary of State revealed her secret fondness for wieners.
Former President George Bush celebrated the news in a different way. Inviting Israeli leaders to Passover at his Crawford, Texas ranch, the host served bacon wrapped brisket and macaroni and cheese, his two favorite low carbohydrate meals. The hobby cattle rancher proclaimed that not enjoying a little pork is “a win for the terrorists.”
Time will tell what the new push towards saturated fats, healthy proteins, leafy vegetables and organic fruits will lead to, but the initial response coming from Capitol Hill is resoundingly positive.
“This is as big as the Health Care plan’s passage, ” says Vice President Biden. “This is a pretty big F*&#ing deal.”
