Look who turns 18 today

I am using my new treadmill desk and I love it!

I will share pictures as soon as hubby puts the final design together, but for now, I am really enjoying walking while I type. I walk for only 45 minutes at a time and then I have to take a break, but I am burning 230 calories in that short spanse of time! It is pretty fun. I only walk .7 miles per hour, which is really slow, but since the high-end people recommend is 1 mph, that’s not bad, right?

What is so funny is that my husband loves it so much, he wants one, too–mine! I have told him we will have to thumb wrestle for it. And now my kids like using it. My son was editing one of his videos using my desk. I am wondering now if we need more…

Today is my third weigh-in at TOPS. I would love to be down more weigh, but I know that the first two weeks tend to be the best losses, and the third is either a stall or a slight gain. I’m prepared for either! Bring it!

Update: I’m down 1.25 pounds for a grand total of roughly 12 pounds since beginning the challenge!

Today is also my youngest son’s 18th Birthday. I love you, Drew. You are always a source of humor and love. I am so proud to know you. (There is dessert, but I will be good…I will be good… I will be good)…

Now what I had yesterday… First of all, here’s the plan I’m following and here is the introduction post to the Mid-Year Resolution Challenge. While you look at what I’m doing, be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled to give some ideas, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). I am, however, here with you to cheer you on when you’re so skinny you will have to watch slipping through the cushions of your couch.

I ate this:

Breakfast: Egg McMuffin sans bread + Diet Coke
Egg salad (egg + pickle +onion+baconnaise) + iced tea
Snack: Crunchy Cuke Slices + 1/4 cup mixed nuts+ Iced Tea
Dinner: Chipless Nachos

Exercise:  I put in an hour at my treadmill desk today and walked nearly a mile.

Notes: Walking while I work makes me less hungry. How can that be?

What I learned:

I need to pace myself.

(Edit: I accidentally typed “pave” myself. Does this road make my asphalt look big?)

Since I have this amazing new treadmill desk, I keep thinking I’ll be able to use it for 8 hours at a stretch, but I am going to have to work up to it. I already worked at it for 45 minutes this morning and then had to take a break because my back muscles were whining. I said, “Go away back muscles; you are harshing on my mellow,” but they decided it was time to take a break. I will go again for another 45 minutes later on after stretching out some muscles and giving them time to rest.

When was the last time I exercised, let alone for 90 minutes per day?

It goes to show that for me it’s important not to overdo it and to take little steps towards health and fitness, because it’s too easy to do too much and cause injury in the process. And if I hurt myself, there goes all of my progress. I can’t have that.

So for now it’s 45-minute stretches and only .7 miles per hour, and that’s all right by me.

Little steps matter, even at the helm of  a treadmill desk.

    • I am so so glad you took the time to write, Stephanie. I hope we have a competed design of the treadmill desk soon so that I can show you! I have had the treadmill for years; I just want a place to work and walk.

    I found my three pound weights today…they were in storage whilst I moved…and non existent for two years. Honestly, they felt as of they were ten pounds…I guess I have a lot of work to do!

    Keep those delicious recipes coming, please…they make usnall drool and prove to ourselves that we are eating our way to supreme health!


    • Gladys– thank you! I let him splurge on a Sonic milkshake. I, on the other hand, was enraptured by my low-carb Mexican take out. It was a win-win.

  5. I so so so am not a fan of exercise, but I love love love working on a treadmill. It’s so much fun, I forget I’m exercising–which sounds totally strange, I know.

    • Way to go, LynnMarie! 4 pounds is fantastic! I look forward to posting pictures of the treadmill desk. My husband keeps hogging it! I haven’t been even able to use it today.

      He gives me a smile and a smirk and says he loves his new treadmill desk. Why I oughta…

    I made your rainbow cheesecake last night for a friend coming over for coffee this afternoon, I can’t wait!

    I did bugger it up some though 🙁
    the sweetener I used says a ratio 1:1 – 1:3 on the pack and I didn’t understand it so I just followed your recipe using it 1:1
    Lesson learned: treat my sweetener as a 1:3 and all should be well.
    What I ended up doing when the mixture was divided for the coloring, I added up to two tablespoons (!!) of lemon/lime juice per container (tasting all the time) to make it palatable, so it was sweet and sour. Then, when it just came out of the oven a small bit stuck to my finger and I tasted it… aarg, now it’s way too sour. But hey, maybe it will have mellowed in the fridge and with the sweet base it might be okay…maybe some whipped cream on top…we’ll see. I’ll keep you posted. Ooh, also, I used fresh vanilla bean in stead of extract (can’t find it here) so while it was plain it looked gorgeous with the lush black specks running through it but it did look odd when the color went in! hahahaha ^_^

    • Hiya, back again after nomming some of the cheesecake and am happy to say it turned out quite nice. Yes it was VERY lemony but seeing as how I had over-sweetened the base too, the balance was fine 😀 yay for me!

      I do have a question though, is the base supposed to be soggy and grainy?? (mine is)
      Where do you think I went wrong with it??

      • I am so glad it wasn’t a complete disaster. Whew. The bottom shouldn’t be soggy or grainy, but if something had to go wrong, at least it’s the part that can be tossed out easily. (Looking for that silver cheesecake-y lining)

        • hahahahaha true true, it is very edible so no great loss there, I just know to tweak it next time

          (and there WILL be a next time – insert maniacal laughter … bwuahahaha – !!!)

          but I just re-read the recipe and you say to let the base cool completely… which I don’t think I did enough as I was wanting to get it in the oven so I could go to bed when it was done…
          oops (it had a half out chilling in the fridge)

          When I took it out of the oven it was soft and pliable…should it be that or should I have left it in there until it was browned and crunchier??

          • I think it’s all good. Next time maybe just go with my standard cheesecake crust (check my ultimate recipe for that crust) and skip the pizza base altogether!

    • Nikki– Hello hello! Boo on th sweetener! I remember the very first time I used Splenda (’04) I used packets for a recipe and it was crazy-sweet! I think it was concentrated back then, so I know what you mean. I have also tossed out many a stevia recipe in the past. Sweeteners are sometimes tricky.

      • Yeah, I know, don’t even get me going on the stevia, it scares me spit-less 🙂

        One annoyance I need to share with you and it has nothing to do with brilliant genius you nor your recipes:
        Is there any other way of posting things and comments here without having to clear the e-mail thing we get to confirm the follow??

        I must be due on because it is really not much to get peeved at so sorry for that but I just do 🙁

        • Are you subscribed to comments? I am not sure why it does that. If I post directly to the blog page I have to check to get comments via email. I think to unsubscribe, click the link in the email and it will take you to subscriptions where you can manage your ‘account’. I hope that helps?

  10. So is it easy to concentrate on your work while walking – sounds interesting. I use a mouse a lot for design work – wondering if it would all be very ‘jerky’ for me (ha – and not in the bacon sense!)

    • Cathronia– I won’t fib; in the beginning it’s a little bit tricky. Your mouse will kind of fly all over the place. Once you get used to the movement, it becomes much easier. I still have trouble typing while walking, so that’s my biggest hurdle to overcome, I think.

      You do lose yourself in what you’re doing, however, so I really think you could work and walk, especially if you use a mouse and become accustomed to the movement.
