My kids are home for Christmas break so my brains are here with my heart. That means all you are left with is fingers, a couple of nostrils, and my toes.
I am having kind of a silly-weird week, but it’s not a bad weird; it’s just different. Those experiences help us to become a little more open to different possibilities in life, in work, and in other ways, so I welcome the unexpected. I like a little bit of a challenge from time to time.
Unfortunately, after making two dishes with dairy in one day (one of them the new bacon pizza at left), and waking up several times with foot cramps and swollen fingers (and a stuffy nose) confirms that dairy and I are going to continue to see each other on a casual basis, but there won’t be anymore lip lock so much as air kisses. It’s not you, dairy; it’s me. More on that below.
Now on to how I’ve been doing with our Mid-Year Challenge… Be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled share my progress and thoughts, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). Be sure to subscribe for updates by adding your email right (in the sidebar) or through Feedburner in the title bar up top. You can also click the tab up top that says Mid-Year Resolution for regular updates.

I ate this:
Breakfast: I ate later last night, so I’m not hungry. Plus, I want to clean my kitchen.
Lunch: Snacks & Instant Mashed Potatoes from HoldTheCarbs.com
Snack: I admit to licking a beater with egg white and I noshed a few nuts and chocolate chips
Dinner: A mock up biscuit with a BLT + A slice of bacon deep-dish pizza.
Exercise: Cleaning! Whee!
Notes: Dairy. I love it, but I can’t tolerate more than maybe 2-3 ounces per day. Combined with broccoli (I’m intolerant to broccoli, so naturally I crave it), I am a hot mess this morning. Weird to think that even eating ketogenic foods means you can still feel miserable if you flip the wrong food intolerance switches.
I also ate a bit more than I really needed, but I chalk that up to PMS, tasting, and testing a couple of new recipes. I will be good the rest of the weekend and may even skip Taco Star until Monday since I weigh in then.
What I learned:
I am so glad I can occasionally try foods I suspect cause me problems and find out that they do.
While it’s never fun having the negative side effects, it’s just further closure that certain foods have to stay on my radar and off of my plate. This is why you see that so many of my food choices are what I call my “baseline.” They’re the foods that don’t cause me the issues. So when a day like yesterday comes along, and I’m testing new recipes, I can immediately know that the new foods (here, dairy and broccoli) are to blame.
Today I tried a new mashed potatoes (instant) low-carb product and now my mouth is tingling and I feel narky. I didn’t think there was enough soy to matter in what little I had, but there definitely was. I wouldn’t have nailed that if I wasn’t so careful.
Baseline foods. They work for me to help me nail down those food allergies, and I really believe once I eradicate those foods, I lose weight better, faster, and get sick even less often, since my body’s immune system isn’t fighting the allergic reactions.

Thanks for your blog Jamie, it is very helpful. How soon after something is eaten do effects show up? I would like to earn which foods I should be avoiding but don’t understand how to go about it.

Hi, Lee! I will write about that today and post it Monday, if that would help? Then I can take the time to answer your question more in depth.
