It is time to motivate yourself going into the new year if you are not already. I think we all really want to live a healthy and active lifestyle, but setting some solid goals always seems to help! Here are a few…
- Make your resolutions before New Year’s.Starting early helps you adjust better and you are more likely to stick to it.
- Start small. Small steps lead to long term success.Think about your current behaviors and slightly modify them instead of extinguishing them. For example, instead of saying you’re going to work out for 2 hours a day, start by going on walk 3 times a week. Instead of removing alcohol from your diet for the month of January, look at your consumption habits and cut it in half.
- Sign up for paid workout classes.Instead of saying you’ll workout 3x a week, sign up for a workout class that penalizes you if you decide to skip it last minute. You’ll be more inclined to go to avoid losing money.
- Partner with a friend on a resolution. Doing it with a friend will hold you accountable. If you make plans with a friend to workout, knowing your friend is waiting for you at the gym will entice you go and vice versa as you are both relying on each other.
- Tell people about your resolutions.Telling people about what you’re doing to live a healthier life will make you more likely to stick to it.
In conclusion, to be successful at sticking to your resolutions, you must build up your confidence in your ability to succeed. The first step is to start small and although this may be the hardest part, once you achieve it you will see significant change overtime.
