Coconut milk is a staple in my kitchen. It has many uses and I can add it into any meal. It is loaded with vitamin C, E, B1,3,5, and B6! All of those B vitamins means a lot of natural energy, and I need every ounce of energy I can get, naturally. This plant based vegan friendly milk is not only good for you on the inside, it is also very good for you on the outside! Many beauty products are now incorporating coconut milk into their formulas. The list of uses go on and on.. and on!
If you are a morning coffee sipper, or chugger, you might consider using coconut milk instead of creamer with your cup of joe. You will get extra energy from all of the vitamins in addition to the boost you already get from the caffeine. You will be really zooming in the mornings with added health benefits from the coconut milk, what in the world could be more perfect.. well that is a pretty open ended question.. nix that 😉
You may not consider coconut milk to go along with meats at first, but I actually like that sweet taste it adds to the meal. You can use this to braise meats or use as the main ingredient in a sauce. Play around with using this as a substitute in one of your favorite recipes.
Coconut milk mixed with coffee gets you going in the morning, but what about when you need to chill out at night? Well this creamy goodness contains 89 milligrams of magnesium per 8 ounces, and this mineral helps calm the nerves and helps to regulate blood pressure. Magnesium aids in not allowing nerve cells to be too active by becoming stimulated by the calcium. Chilled out nerve cells reduces the contractions of muscles, which makes you feel more calm and relaxed.
As I mentioned above, coconut milk is not only good for your insides, it is a highly used beauty product as well. The fat content is great for moisturizing. You can apply coconut milk directly to the face and let is stay on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Lightly pat your face dry and enjoy your beautiful glowing skin!
Lauric acid is very valuable to the human body, and you are in luck because coconut milk contains this. It has antiviral and antibacterial compounds that help to fight infections.
Coconut milk has a higher fiber content and this will make you feel fuller longer. This can help you maintain your weight by eating more in moderation considering the full feeling you will get from the saturated fats in this milk.
My hair is in constant need of moisture. I have tried every conditioner that is on the shelves. When I was a kid my mom would put mayonnaise on my hair and put a plastic bag wrapped around it and let is sit an hour or so before rinsing it out. For some reason now I cannot consume nor look at mayonnaise. Lucky for me, and y’all, coconut is to the rescue for hair care too! Rub the milk into your scalp and brush it through your hair. After is it all coated wrap it up in towel and let it absorb an hour or two. The longer you let your hair soak it up the better. Rinse it out and let your healthy happy hair shine through!
I know there are even more great uses for coconut milk, these are just the top ranking ones in my book. Please share any other great uses that you have tried below!
Jamie,
I’m in a quandry about store bought coconut & almond milk. I use them daily but recently have read articles about carrageenan & how bad it is for you as well as the Vit. D2 that is added to these milks (instead of D3). The articles discuss how these unhealthy ingredients are added to what we think are healthy milk products & how we should make our own without the extras…. just another thing to worry about & who has the time? Do you have any thoughts?
I too have read this, Jan. I will NEVER use canned milks, now. Vit.D2 alone is poison! It’s so easy to make your own coconut and almond milks. Takes some time, but it’s so worth it! Just go to youtube and search for how to make your own. 🙂
Thanks! I was beginning to think I was crazy. $ & time are huge issues but if the cartons (that I’ve been so thankful for!) are really hurting my family, I’ll just have to adjust!
I use coconut oil every day instead of lotion. I cook with the oil and love the coconut milk in my green tea and oatmeal. I drink organic sulphur which increases detoxing through the skin and so use a skin brush then the coconut oil absorbs wonderfully.
*Check your lotions- they are full of toxins and cancer related ingredients.
You can make your own coconut milk by putting a cup of coconut flakes into a blender and adding two cups of hot water to it. I let it sit to cool a little and then strain it through a nut bag (I actually use a paint straining bag). My kids have smoothies every day with this coconut milk.
Awesome tips, thanks for sharing!
What brand of cocunut milk do you recommend?
Sadly, I cannot locally find Coconut milk that doesn’t have added sugar.
I love coconut milk. Do you make your own, buy it in a carton or can? I discovered that making my own was easy.
I have never attempted to make my own, but I should give it a try sometime!
I love your recipes! Do you use canned coconut milk or the milk in the aseptic cartons? And if canned, do you use light or regular fat?
I do use canned coconut milk sometimes and always full fat!
@Willow – had I realized that making coconut milk was so easy, I would’ve been doing it all along! I always have unsweetened coconut flakes on hand, so this one’s a slam dunk. Thanks for the tip!
