Ear Stapling to lose weight?
Ear stapling is based loosely on the principles of acupuncture, which involves stimulating certain points of your body with fine needles. With acupuncture of the ear, the needles are typically left in place for only a short time.
Proponents of ear stapling claim that the staples stimulate a pressure point that controls appetite, leading to weight loss. Small surgical staples are placed into the inner cartilage of each ear. The staples can be left in place for several weeks or even months.
Although some studies suggest that acupuncture can reduce appetite, ear stapling hasn’t been proved effective for weight loss.
I have not tried ear stapling or acupuncture for weight loss, have you? If so please share your story of how it did or did not work for you?
I did this with a friend about 5 years ago. She took hers out after about a week because they were so painful to her. I left mine in for about a month. Neither of us could tell ANY difference in our appetite, nor did we lose weight. I can’t remember all the specifics, but they had to be massaged or something odd like 30 minutes prior to each meal, which believe it or not is very difficult if you have any type of busy life what so ever. Maybe the irritation of having something stuck in both ears might cause some people to focus on that instead of food (detect sarcasm here). It was expensive and for both of us it was a total waste of time, money and unnecessary discomfort.
My gosh! Back 30 years ago when I was young and painfully thin, all my friends were perpetually on a diet and trying any new thing imaginable to lose weight. I remember some kind of ear doodad that fit in the ear like the hearing aids then that you were supposed to press whenever you were hungry. Just a waste of money I suppose, because they continued to look for the next best thing. You might as well put a rubber band on your wrist and snap yourself every time you feel hungry!!
I think you have something there Jan.. be the first to push out the new rubber band snapping diet! 😉
I tried it way back in the 70’s and it did not work, as I recall.
I have been getting acupuncture regularly for 7 years. I have also worked in a variety of clinics for over three years as an assistant. Acupuncture can help with cravings. Ear acupuncture is especially effective for any types of cravings ( ie. cigarettes, drugs, food). I don’t know anything about ear stapling. However acupuncturists often tape seeds, beads or magnets to specific points in the ear. These are then pressed to stimulate the point and reduce cravings between treatments.
Hope this helps.
That is very helpful information, thank you for sharing! You having hands on experience is priceless!
I did acupuncture to lose weight over 30 years ago. It worked in the regard that I didn’t feel dizzy or light headed (doc told me it would help my bodies ability to utulise stored fat stores, which did seem to work). I dropped over 30 kilos in less than a year on the diet. BUT. I was eating 500 calories or less every day of the diet. Which as we all know NOW is not a good thing. Plus I was prescribed Duromine. I believe my success was due more the combination of the low calories, the duromine, and the weekly visits to the doc for more acupuncture , and more importantly, the 30 mins laying, relaxing, listening to motivational tapes during the treatment, than the acupuncture itself. After finishing treatment I gained weight if I ate more than 1000 cals a day, and when I fell pregnant 3 years later and had to eat ‘normally’ I regained all i had lost, and more. Been an ongoing (and (NOT) losing) battle ever since.
Thank you for sharing your story. I am sure you are not the only one who went through this. I have been in desperate times to try anything as well. Eating 500 calories a day is definitely not healthy, but like I said.. been there done that too! Eating a healthy amount of healthy food and exercising is always the best way to go about it. Some people do benefit from carving out “me” time, like getting accupuncture, yoga class, meditation etc.. Hang in there girl, you can do this!!!
I tried it twice. Don’t recommend it. Mine got infected. I have several friends that did with the same results. There was no curbing of hunger whatsoever. Only low carb has ever worked for me.
I tried this years ago but I didn’t get any benefit from it and it certainly didn’t curb my appetite!! Caused me more pain than anything and I ended up at the Doctors having to get them removed and wow did that hurt!!!
Maybe they figure since you are in such pain you won’t feel like eating 😉
