It is so cold outside. Picture me, navigating the streets of Boulder, with my 16 year old driver behind the wheel, battling with her first inclement weather trip from the store.
The windows steamed, the windshield wipers could barely keep pace with the heavy slush pelting the car, and the right lanes of each and every road swelled with water, ready to splash. We managed not to crash the car, but it was definitely exciting when the windshield so filled with water we disturbed as we drove near the sidewalk, that for a split second the windshield wiper took to clear the scene, we were blinded.
Then, in an instant, we both gasped, the windshield wiper pushed everything aside, and then we both broke out in laughter and relief. Welcome to Colorado, winter. Please be kind to my daughter.
I am also pleased to have been chosen as a Featured Sharaholic Publisher. The email I received this last week read, “Of our 200,000 publishers, you were one of top 25 food blogs we hand-selected to feature on Shareaholic’s newly-launched food channel.” I am so honored and humbled by the distinction. It is so affirming to be recognized.
Now on to how I’ve been doing with our Mid-Year Challenge… Be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled share my progress and thoughts, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). Be sure to subscribe for updates by adding your email right (in the sidebar) or through Feedburner in the title bar up top. You can also click the tab up top that says Mid-Year Resolution for regular updates.
Saturday, November 10
Breakfast: Nothing. I had such a huge meal last night, I wasn’t hungry.
Lunch: Skipped
Dinner: olives + salami + cheese + 1/4 cup mixed nuts
Snack: Cucumber slices
Exercise: I stood and walked quite a bit with the kids tonight at the range.
Notes: I so overdid pizza toppings last night. I don’t even know why. Maybe my body wanted a few extra calories and some more protein, but I am definitely reigning it in for the next few days and skipping the dairy when it makes sense.
Sunday, November 11
Breakfast: Skipped. I was busy writing and wasn’t hungry.
Lunch: A fun little omelet (recipe coming) + 1 Pringle Sour Cream and Onion chip
Snack: Cucumber slices
Dinner: Cottage cheese + olives + flavored almonds + shredded Parmesan cheese
Exercise: None. I have been so bad this week. I need to conquer and take back my treadmill desk. It has been overtaken by my adorable hubby.
Notes: Weigh-in is tomorrow, so I’m keeping it simple to try to defray some of the “over-cheese” damage Friday. I might go in with a slight gain, but I’m fine with that. I’ve been losing a lot over the last few weeks, so some little stalls and gains along the way are normal.
What I learned:
I am enjoying the fresh herbs from our indoor garden. The flavors are so delicate. I even sometimes catch my husband sneaking a sprig of mint for his unsweetened, iced tea.
When did you start this journey?
Hi, Jill! the first time was in 1984 when I lost 40 pounds and then kept it off for 3 years. Then in 2004, I lost 115 pounds, but I put it back on. This time (the last time I do this) I started August 31 of this year and am down about 45 pounds!
First, congratulations on being a Featured Publisher!! Out of 200,000?? Already knew you were amazing, this is just icing on the cake (low carb, of course!).
Been there done that with 2 daughters. Yikes! If not the slush of Boulder, then the back roads of living in the boonies with no shoulder on the sides and dark as pitch. Scary anyway you look at it, and I still worry and pray when I wave goodbye as they drive off for college and get on the highways. Good luck and prayers.
Hi, Nancy! Thank you so much for your kind words! I was really humbled. Knowing your daughters made it through just fine has me much less concerned. She really held up well. I can’t wait to take her out onto ice…
