Ouch! Guess who the dummy is who spilled scalding water over all the fingers on her left hand?
One guess! No, it is not the Queen. It is me! Thankfully, applying ice immediately and cold water stopped tissue damage and I’m right as rain again. Rain, not reign. That’s still the Queen.
Do you see that adorable mug? It’s my Hello Bacon mug! No, they’re not for sale. It’s too close to Sanrio’s trademark for their liking, but I love it, so I had some items made for me. I even have a mouse pad and a tote bag with this cute little insignia! It makes me smile, and I like to smile.
When I smile it reminds me of things. Like removing my mud mask before I leave the house this time. Brushing away the last vestiges of broccoli. To put on deodorant. Pickles. To pluck my eyebrows. To wear socks. It’s Friday. Did I tell you I also have a very short attention
Now to how I’ve been doing with our Mid-Year Challenge!… First of all, here’s the plan I’m following and here is the introduction post to the Mid-Year Resolution Challenge. While you look at what I’m doing, be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled to give some ideas, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). I am, however, here with you to cheer you on when you’re so skinny you will have to watch slipping through the cushions of your couch.
Be sure to subscribe for updates by adding your email right (in the sidebar) or through Feedburner in the title bar up top!
You can also click the tab up top that says Mid-Year Resolution for the daily play-by-play and to see what I’m doing. Whee!
Friday, November 9
I ate this:
Breakfast: salami + green olives + cheese + 1/4 cup mixed nuts
Lunch: some fresh cucumber slices (they’re crispy) + Pad Thai
Dinner: Taco Star super nachos plate sans the chippie dippies + toppings from a slice of all-meat Papa Murphy’s Pizza
Snack: Too many pizza toppings with meat and cheese. It was decadent and wonderful, but I wasn’t hungry. I’m sure I had at least 4 slices’ worth. I will be extra good Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Exercise: *whistles*
Notes: I need to figure out if the soy sauce I used–though fermented– gave me issues last night. I had the tingling in the mouth and issues I typically have with soy after the Pad Thai I made last night. I’m not 100% sure what caused the problems, but I’m going to keep it simple until weigh in on Monday for TOPS. I want to have another loss and not have a dumb gain due to inflammation.
What I learned:
I just like stuff.
Big and small, I like it all. Whether I am happy with my heat-proof spatulas or simplifying my kitchen, using vinegar instead of spot remover in the dishwasher or making my laundry soap, it’s all just fun stuff. I love the smell of my soy candles, the bright light coming from my little plant grower, my pink Remington hearing protectors and books. I have literally hundreds and hundreds of books.
I know I am thankful for all of you, too! I love when you comment or send me emails. It’s so much fun getting to meet so many of you and hearing about how you are doing and reading about your families.
I hope you have a lot of things to have fun with and be thankful for, too! Big and small, treasure them all.
I have just registered for your e-mails in the last few days , I am really enjoying them .
Thank You

Hi, Margaret! I am so glad you are a subscriber. Thank you for taking the time to let me know and for your support!
I switched to coconut aminos in place of soy sauce. Trying to stay away from soy products. My hubby and I both like it.
Thank you for the suggestion, Kandye. Are the aminos really easy to find?
I buy them at Whole Foods. They may also be available inline or elsewhere. If you try them I hope you like them as well as we do.
Thanks so much! I am going to have to check Vitamin Cottage. I checked King Soopers and didn’t see any coconut aminos. Am going to keep looking.
Ah, I feel your pain! But you have not lived until you have dipped your entire left hand in boiling bacon fat…ouch! I ran to the MD’s office…Rx of FLAMAZINE cream…95% better in ONE hour…the last 5% was redness and it disappeared in a couple of days! Amazing!
I am stuck….I have not lost for a while…and I am eating less than 20 carbs a day…well under, so I am not going to worry about it! I am strict on myself!
Breakfast: Hot Chocolate Coconut Pudding…1.2 carbs and a bottle of flavoured water.
Lunch will be…Chicken salad with Dijon vinaigrette over crisp romaine! And diet root beer!
Dinner: the last BBQs of the year…I have ground pork defrosting…so pork burgers and sautéed lemon spinach! Yum! Coke Zero!
Regards, I hope you are not still in pain!
Glad
Ouch, Gladys! Bacon fat is far worse because it adheres.
Your menus always look so tantalyzing! Maybe you need to indulge in double the carbs for one day and see if that might help kick your body into gear?
Thanks for the advice…or I was thinking of going ultra low carb and calorie…one day on and one day off….enjoying Chia and almond milk for breakfast….hemp hearts with frozen rapberries and coconut oil for lunch and the hot chocolate coconut pudding plus a salad for dinner!
What do you think? Would this work?
Regards,
Glad
I don’t know. Going ultra low carb and calorie would have to be your choice, but it feels so austere and might make you hungry. It also makes it more difficult to get the amount of nutrients you might want, too. Of course, I have a friend who does the JUDDD (Up Day, Down Day) with a ketogenic diet and she really likes it.
Ouch, I know the feeling, spilled boiling water on my face and chin (don’t even ask how I did it).. so I know the awful pain.. Have you thought of Bragg’s Aminos for the soy sauce? Tastes the same and is actually good for you. Blessings, Sheatina
Hi there! How easy is the amino to find? Thanks so much for the suggestion. I have a soy allergy, and I thought soy sauce would be fine, since it is fermented, but I don’t think that it is.
Yikes! Hope you’re on the mend soon. Burns hurt for a long time. Word of caution for next time, never use ice. Putting ice directly on a burn can cause a person’s body to become too cold and cause further damage to the wound. Take care.
Thank you for that advice and well wishes! I appreciate it. I know I should have submerged my hand in ice water and I used an ice pack instead. Needless to say, I am going to use much more care…
Awe! Hope your hand is ok! Keep a thick layer of Aloe Vera gel on it. Cyberhugs!
Deb
That and stop playing with boiling pots of water. Thank you Deb {{{Deb}}}
When I was in high school and worked at the concession stand, I poured the popcorn hot oil on my hand. I ran for the yellow mustard. I had forgotten that.
Glad all is fine for you.
So sorry to hear of your kitchen mishap, Jamie. THAT’s no fun. When I crushed my right shoulder years ago ice skating, and my arm was immobilized for 6 weeks, I got incredibly good at meal prep (and feeding myself) with just my left arm/hand. Not a good thing for a right-handed person to have their right arm out of commission. But a girl’s gotta eat! LOL Hope it feels better soon.
Ouch! I am bad enough with two hands. You put me to shame with your one-handed mad skills in the kitchen. Thankfully, it was better within an hour of chilling the burn sites. It is amazing how resilient the skin can be!
