Hello, my little beautiful Brussels Sprouts of happiness.
Don’t you love that cute Hello Bacon? My graphic design partner created it to put me out of my misery when I showed her my amateurish rendition in Paint. I have a mouse pad and a Tshirt, a tote bag and a mug with the design on it. I don’t sell it because Sanrio owns the trademark, but I love it for me. It makes me smile. I hope you like it, too.
Now on to how amazing this treadmill desk is. *ahem ahem* Ladies (and most righteous dudes) I had an hour on the treadmill today working at my desk and I love it. I thought I might really like working at it, but I can only work for about an hour at a time, so I will take some more time this afternoon and work at it again so I can build up some stamina.
I am having so much fun using it and I’ve already burned 400 calories while checking my email and playing Words with Friends, and answering comments and peeking in on Facebook. I promise to post pictures soon!
Now what I had yesterday… First of all, here’s the plan I’m following and here is the introduction post to the Mid-Year Resolution Challenge. While you look at what I’m doing, be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled to give some ideas, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). I am, however, here with you to cheer you on when you’re so skinny you will have to watch slipping through the cushions of your couch.

Wednes
day, September 19
I ate this:
Breakfast: Egg salad + baconnaise + pickle + chopped onion + diet soda
Lunch: 1/4 cup mixed, salted nuts
Snack: Pepperoni and cheese sticks
Dinner: I felt a little narky due to the oven cleaning, so cottage cheese+ olives +sunflower seeds + almonds + shredded Parm.
Exercise: Walked and worked for 2 hours at the treadmill desk.
Notes: I was wondering what the neighbors are barbecuing, but I remembered that I set my oven to “clean” and it’s caught everything in there on fire. This, my friends, is why some people call me Horoscopically Blonde.
What I learned:
I like simple foods based on proteins, fats and vegetables.
I’ve never been a dessert person. Sure, I love to bake desserts, but I also relish having a piece and then giving the rest away.
I’m not sure if the sweeteners stall me or if it’s the nut-based flours that I tend to side eye slightly (I suspect I might have an aversion to nuts or to moldy foods), but it’s just something I love to create, smell, taste, and, most importantly, gift to friends.
I love simple, basic meals, like this Salisbury Steak and fresh-cut and cooked green beans.
Keep it simple. Keep it delicious. Keep it dimplicious.
Dear Jamie,
I discovered a most delicious dessert yesterday…and I have to share!
It is…a teaspoon of cream cheese wrapped with bacon!
It is wonderful!
And it made me wonder…can I bake a flax muffin made with bacon fat and add bacon bits to the batter? It sounds so good…more bacon! I will try this later today!
Regards,
Glad
I love bacon, and adding cream cheese = winning. It’s like the jalapeno popper sans the jalapeno.
I would think you could totally do that with the flax muffin! Flax tends to be fatty, though, so hopefully the lard addition isn’t too too.
I used to have a self cleaning oven. I vowed NEVER to clean my oven in the summer. Dang those things get HOT!!!
So when someone asks your sign you reply “Horoscopically blonde!”? haha.
I am a bottle blonde…I tell people I had to dye my hair blonde because I became a disgrace to the brunette race.
Still am curious and eagerly waiting to see what a treadmill desk is. Do you sit and have a small treadmill at your feet, or do you have a desk like set up around the top of the treadmill and actually walk?
I am still walking my three miles per day. But have increased the speed a bit. It feels nice to be able to do that again.
I think blondes are so pretty–and I’m not blonde. I’m more your comedic Ashkenazim friend who parks her car in front of her house and then wonders why someone is blocking my mailbox.
I am so going to share pictures of the desk…but I am hoping to get pictures of the step-by-step process. I am hoping to nag my hubby to do it this weekend. (Shhh. He doesn’t know this yet).
You can totally walk and type at the same time. I’ve been doing it with the most amazing keyboard I’ll also share images of. It is so swank! I love it. Walking with wrists resting on something really stabilizes the body immensely, and you really ought not walk more than a mile per hour.
How much weight have you lost so far?
I’ve lost so much by now I could dangle from your Christmas tree, but I’m down a total of 25 pounds (and closer to 15 since beginning the challenge a month ago).
Right now I’m walking on my treadmill. I pretty much stick to an hour because that is as much time as my laptop will let me go without being plugged in. And really right now an hour is all it seems I need because of the other exercises I do throughout the week. I’ve increased from a few days/week to each day of the week – one hour at a time and that is fine for me.
I read about a doctor from the mayo clinic who walks for his full day at 1 mph. at his desk. He was told by HIS doctor to stop walking so much because it made him too skinny! LOL
I think an hour at a time is probably a good amount of time. I was doing 4 hours or more sometimes (a couple years back) but hadn’t really seen more benefit from it than the hour. But yeah, build up your stamina and see how it works for you.Everyone is different. 🙂
I am so loving my treadmill desk! I know it is definitely benefiting me. I’m feeling better and my posture is already improving. I don’t slouch when I sit anymore, which is so not me. I am so slouchy.
Hi Jamie! Love your blog, I look at it daily! I have a quick question for you…I discovered low carb yogurt at my grocery store, it has 4 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of sugar…Do you think this is ok to eat on Atkins?
Hi, Eimile! If you’re talking the CarbMaster yogurt, absolutely. It’s not for induction; it’s more dairy rung. Be sure to count the sweetener as one of your sweetener servings for the day. There are some really decent low carb yogurts out there. I have become addicted to plain greek yogurt with berries I slice and add!
Believe it or not….I only added two crumbled strips of bacon…and no additional oil….freshly ground black pepper, and a dash of onion powder. It turned out dry….so i ate it with a teaspoon of cream cheese which I proved it immensely! If I make it again, the recipe still requires the oil…then the added bacon! ( ok, you found me out…I am not a great baker….that is why I love your creativity in baking!)
Ah, but I love your idea about the cream cheese! I could plop the cheese in the center of the batter before cooking it in the microwave! What a super idea! It needs more experimentation, to be sure…but it was quite a satisfactory lunch with a crisp romaine salad adorned with my garlic aioli!
Dinner…somehow I think I would love meatballs….and zucchini!! For a nice Italian taste! The ground beef is defrosting as I type! You know me. I love to look forward to want the next taste sensation is going to be! It keeps me in love with this diet!
Regards,
Glad
I just found your site and love the ideas of the daily menu’s. Do you have them all compiled someplace? I would love to follow them for a month and see if that may make me start losing again. I am stuck and have been for several weeks or maybe even months. Just go up and down the same three pounds.
Hi, Pat! If you click the tab at the top that says Mid-Year Resolution, you’ll see my menus for the last 3 weeks.
