I am down 10 pounds since I started a week ago! I love my food.
It hasn’t always been easy, but you can track how I’ve been doing day-by-day under the tab Mid-Year Resolution up top! [link]
I am making great changes to my diet, and still have more changes to make (including cutting back on sodas), and those are little-by-little changes I am happy to make. I won’t weigh in until next week since today is a holiday. Can you imagine the looks I’m going to get? Oooh noo! But really, in the beginning so much of it is water weight shed from inflammation. It is the coming weeks that will be the sign of (good) things to come.
Now what I had yesterday… First of all, here’s the plan I’m following and here is the introduction post to the Mid-Year Resolution Challenge.
While you look at what I’m doing, be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled to give some ideas, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). I am, however, here with you to cheer you on and help you hold you when you’re so slim you blow away when you sneeze.

Monday, September 3
I ate this:
Breakfast: Diet Coke + 1 slice Cookie Pizza
Lunch: Beefy Dog Casserole (still in development) + Diet Hansen’s Root Beer.
Snack: 1 Mustard, honey roasted almond (Yeah, just one. For the flavor. I don’t need a handful)
Dinner: Zucchini bread [no recipe yet] + Diet Coke
Late night mini-meal: Cottage cheese + Parmesan (shredded) and 23 almonds.
Notes: I am so glad to be through with week 1! How many weeks are left? 17? Still so many weeks to make positive changes!
Today I Learned:
That even being imperfect can still bring you happiness and success in your weight loss journey.
I eat hot dogs and some processed meats, use diet sodas, and I’m still down 10 pounds. In this economy you have to do your best with what you have available. If you can afford organics, that is terrific! If you can’t, know that you can lose weight even still by cutting out sugar and wheat and counting your carbohydrates.
I didn’t always eat as many beggies as I could, and I didn’t drink as much water as I should. You have seen I certainly haven’t exercised much yet. I am making those changes little by little and day by day.
I am journaling in my food notebook and I am so happy I am! I also love telling you what I eat everyday so that you can see what a normal person can eat who has a budget, too.
Week one is down and I have already fended off one attack of the popcorn munchies, and even went out to Red Robin last night and handled myself beautifully! Give yourself a pat on the back for all of the amazing things you’ve done this week, too.
You don’t have to be perfect, just driven, to lose weight and feel better.
LOVE the t-shirt idea!
Thank you! I have a lot of fun with things like this.
I really appreciate that you are sharing. Helps me out in many ways. Thanks again!
I am glad I can help! It keeps me honest, too. When I have to log every little thing, I’m more careful simply because I don’t want to have to write it down, too. It’s like twice the work!
I just found your blog last week. I have always had luck with low carb. I usually start with the Protein Power plan, and once on maintenance, kind of loosen up the rules.
Last week, I said it was time to plan and shop and start cooking and recording my meals.
After today’s post, I am so inspired and ready!
10 pounds in one week?! I forgot how easily it happens (I have similar results.)
I’ve also developed an allergy to wheat, gluten and soy since last time I did low carbing, and I thought it would be next to impossible to combine these restrictions and have any kind of variety in meals. Your recipes are wonderful for adding that variety back to everyday cooking and eating low carb.
I don’t have a working oven right now, but I’m planning on making that big ol’ pizza crust as soon as I do!
Thank you, so much for your hard work and for sharing your progress.
I’m inspired and ready to go!
Hi, Roxxy! I think those aversions to foods are an absolute blessing because they force us to stay away from the stuff and to focus on healthier, whole foods choices. I am so glad you’re with us! I look forward to seeing your progress, too!
Jamie, I’m so proud of you. You are amazing!! I’m hoping this week will be a good week for me, and I think I am counting it as my ‘first week’ since I really had some creeper carbs (I like that term — I made it up!!! ha ha)that I have now identified! Funny how little things like a handfull of raisens doesn’t seem like much going down, but when you check out the carb count, ugh!!! Thank you for being such a good cyper support!!!
It’s painful looking at foods and seeing how much sugar they pack in a small portion. And raisins are especially wonderful… *sigh* But onward we push. We push, Donna! I am proud of you for keeping track of those carbs and reading labels!
I never had such support…reading what everyone is eating is such an inspiration and guide! I will weigh myself next Monday, due to holiday. I doubt I have lost anywhere what you, sweet Jamie, have achieved.
The days I THINK I eat too much lettuce (ha) I pull back the next day…and eat pure protein…same with veggies…if I think I have eaten too much zucchini…same thing!
Today,
Breakfast…iced coffee blended with lots of ice, cold and frothy, flax cocoa muffin…and a fried egg.
Lunch….two fried eggs…fried in bacon fat ove medium, with two zero carb, nitrite free hot dogs…warmed in the residual meager bacon fat…..so delicious, with coke zero.
Dinner will be spicy sirloin fried in sweet butter with a huge Caesar….with a mayo and garlic, garlic, garlic dressing….and crystal light infused nestle water.
It is pouring rain today…. I will walk later at the mall…however, malls are dangerous if one does not want to spend any money! But my feet must walk!
Great black tee, Jamie! Keep the inspiration coming!
Good luck to all,
Regards,
Glad
Ooh yummy, Gladys! I love Caesar salads. I love seeing what you’re doing every day!
Way to go, Jamie!!! So proud of you AND so happy for you!!! You did great, Girl!! And all the while, helping and encouraging all of us!! Thanks so much. On to the next week!!! 🙂
Thanks so much, Kathy! I am so proud of all of our hard work together. That’s what community is all about. We will do this!
I think I NEED that t-shirt! It goes with the one my niece gave me for my birthday this year. You can see it here: https://k-wellness.blogspot.com/2012/09/international-bacon-day.html
Keep up the good work! You can do anything you set your mind to. Plus you have all of us to cheer on your successes and help you work through the setbacks. We are all proud of you!
You are so sweet! IBWT!
(In Bacon We Trust). BTW, your shirt is super cute!
Love seeing what you all are eating. I think I may be eating too much. Carbs are OK, but total is maybe not. I’ve read that too much protein is turned into insulin === fat storage. I think that came from Gary Taubes. Will try to equal out my carbs and protein and enjoy the fat!!! Did my water aerobics this morning at the Y — felt goood!!!
You all are doing so well. Congrats to all!!
Arlene, if you want to share what you’re eating, I’m happy to look at it! Please feel free. I am always glad to help.
Hmmmm. Thanks for your offer.I usually eat between 1200 and 1500 calories. Sunday I ate ~1250, with 64 % fat, 13% carb and 23% protein. Yesterday, I ate 1725 with 72% fat, 6% carb and 22% protein. But, (I know I shouldn’t have), when I jumped on the scale this mornin, I was down 1.5 lbs from start date (9/2) Love my coconut oil, bacon and olive oil. I really need to give it an entire week or so before I drastically change anything.
Arlene, everything, numberswise, looks right on. If you have any problems, shoot me your foods themselves and I can look and have some kind of an idea. There are so many reasons for slows or stalls, and they can emanate from food intolerances to not enough fat. Of course, you’re definitely getting enough fat! Awesome.
Thanks Jamie for the reply. I gonna kinda float through the first week or two and see how things go. One thing for sure, I’m not hungry!!!
The lack of hunger is such an amazing side effect of lipolysis!
Go Jamie!!! You are rocking it!!! Knew you would! I am down 31 as of this morning since July 3!!
Wow, Amanda! you are doing so well! I am thoroughly proud of you!
I don’t see any vegetables or meat, besides hot dog. Are you drinking any water? congratulations on losing 10 lbs.
Hi, Pat! Yesterday I didn’t eat veggies, no. It was a busy day and I didn’t make the effort. Today I’ve eaten more. I think unless I go out of my way to incorporate them, they end up not being included. How conveeeeeeenient!
Per water, no. I drank mostly Diet Coke. I am making some changes, but they’re slow changes. Right now, DC is how I get my water in…
As I opened my Diet Pepsi this morning, I thought about the aspartame. I had been off it for a while, but it draws you in right ???? I’ve been taking L-glutamine as suggested by Julia Ross, and then wondered if the phenylalanine interferes with the glutamine. I’ve heard that sometimes your amino acids can interfere with each other if you eat a lot of one. This sounds really unscientific, but I’m sleep deprived and can’t think of a better way to say it. Any ideas? Maybe I’ll splurge on Hansens and see what happens.
Amberly, I am addicted to the phenalalynine in the Diet Coke, and that’s why I have such a hard time quitting it. My friend Misty did say that taking the phenylalanine in supplement form is a good way to wean off of the stuff, so I might try that.
I’m so proud of you!! I have tears in my eyes typing this because I am so proud of you. I have fallen off the wagon. I’ve gained 10 pounds this year! I so well at work because I pack my break and lunch meals but once I get home….. I have grapes, and cheese, and a low carb ice cream….then dinner! It seems once I get home, I am so hungry and can’t stop eating. I am so mad at myself and disappointed as well. Keep it up. Hopefully I will catch the fever and loose the 10 pounds that I gained.
LynnMarie, give me your 10 pounds and I’ll get rid of them for you. You have enough to do. Thank you for being so supportive! I wish we had weighed in at TOPS this week. It’s going to look so weird if I go in next week with a crazy high loss…
10# is amazing!!! Good job. I’m a little envious as I only lost 4# but hey, it’s four that I don’t have to see again! I wanted to share supper with you because it was awesome! I sauteed a sliced yellow pepper, a small yellow onion, about 10 quartered mushrooms and half a head of broccoli in coconut oil for about 10 minutes on medium. Added some raw diced bacon and about 15 large, fully cooked and defrosted shrimp. continued heating until bacon and shrimp were heated through. It was AH-mazing. Wish there were more for tomorrow 🙁 (Oh! I didn’t eat all the veggies – half of them go with hubby’s steak but the shrimp were mine! lol)
Yeah, but you have less weight to lose, so I’d rather have 4 to lose than 10! Of course, it’s all relative. I am super proud of your 4, Karen. You are amazingsauce! Wow. I love what you made. That sounds really nice. Dumb question: Can you taste the coconut oil? I am not sure if I have a house filled with drama queens, but my family swoons across fainting couches at the mention of coconut anything.
Jamie – it depends on what kind of coconut oil you buy. This one has no flavor: https://astore.amazon.com/kwelln-20/detail/B00014D37W (Spectrum Naturals). This one does: https://astore.amazon.com/kwelln-20/detail/B001EO5Q64 (Nutiva Organics). I also love Spectrum Naturals coconut cooking spray (like Pam only better!) Also no taste: https://astore.amazon.com/kwelln-20/detail/B0048IH9EA
Thanks so much, Kathy! I use Nutiva and love it, but there’s definite coconut love going on in there.
I couldn’t taste the coconut oil over the bacon but you could certainly use butter instead. You know what I’m in love with? Coconut butter!!!! I’d rather have that than any other sweet treat. I think it’s 3 net carbs/ T but I need to check. and thanks for the encouragement. One big hurdle of mine is patience wrt weight loss. I know it all adds up in the end but I want results and I want results NOW! lol You are such an encouragement. I really can’t thank you enough for putting this mid-year challenge out there! I think it’s going to change BOTH our lives!
Coconut butter is like the bacon of tree happiness.
I am impatient, too. I always want to live in every moment. I also want all of them to be skinny! lol
Great start. It’s amazing how much weight comes off as the inflammation and retained fluid washes out.
I wish I’d been able to weigh myself before I began wheat free but we were on holiday with no scales. I was already wheat free for 10 days before my first weigh in. Even so I recorded 23 pounds lost in January. No wonder I decided never to deliberately eat wheat again.
Life can only get better as you continue.
Blessings.
Keep it up girl! Looks like another good day for you!
Thank you, Julia! I hope it’s been a great one for you, too.
I am on a different kind of diet, but I’m so excited I will share with anyone who will listen. I started my diet on April 15th of this year and since then I have said goodbye to 73 pounds. I have gone from a size 26 pants to a 14!!! I don’t think I’ve worn a 14 since I was 12 years old. This site has been a lifesaver for low carb living and I have referred a few friends here. After many batches, I think I have almost perfected the ‘Onion Oopsie’. Absolutely amazing for a BLT. Tonight as a snack, I had some homemade strawberry ice cream, Just frozen strawberries, cream and a touch of stevia in the food processor, Divine! Love your site, Jamie. You are my hero!
Way to go on your losses! I am seriously jazzed about your efforts!
Good for you! 🙂 10 lbs is awesome.
Thank you so much.
I am sooooo happy for you. Guess it seems odd to say I am happy for your loss, is that a greeting card???? I doubt it, but should be for those of us trying to lose weight, ha! I digress, congrats and keep up the GREAT work!!! Are you feeling better as well?
And a p.s., the shirt is so cute!
Thank you! I am really happy.
Thank you! I am coming down with the nasty cold going around, and I feel the sore throat starting the in the back of my neck. I am going to start the C, D, and Zinc and hope it helps. I can’t afford to be laid out for days.
That’s an incredible amount of weght to lose in 1 week! Congratulations!! I am looking forward to your zucchini bread recipe. I follow the original Suzanne Somers plan so I hope it doesn’t contain any funky foods like almond flour. Thanks for sharing your recipes and experiences with us. You have a lot of supporters!
Lauren– What’s a non-funky food? Thanks for your support! I love you!
Wooo Hooo!! Way to go Jamie on the 10# :-)) Oh and the t-shirt is awesome. Love the Princess Bride story and combining that with “you ate my bacon”, absolutely love it!!!
Trying to stick to my 5-10% net carbs, 20% protein and 70% (healthy) fat is proving to be quite a challenge. The bad carbs keep taking over but I am determined to change that.
Linda, you are doing so well, though. It’s a one day at a time effort for each and every one of us! And the struggle makes the successes all the more worth it. I am really truly proud of you.
Wow! What is your “different kind of diet” if I may ask? (Don’t want to derail any LC efforts if it’s not LC.) I’m having ankle surgery in a month, and would love to drop a lot by the time I’m back on my feet (literally).
Don’t be saying “But really in the beginning it’s water weight”….put 10 pounds of water in a bag and carry it around for an hour, it all counts, 10 pounds is 10 pounds! Ya done good, so give yourself a pat on the back and forget about “it’s ONLY water weight”….sheesh….
Thanks for the kudos! I just don’t want people thinking I think I lost a colony of adipose in my right thigh this soon in the game. You are the best!
Congratulations on the 10 lbs., Jamie. That’s awesome. I look forward to reading about your journey each day. It’s very inspirational to me! KUTGW and thank you!
Thank you, Connie! I am coming down with a killer cold, so I might not be as wordy for the next few days, but I’ll do my best.
Don’t you worry, one little bit, Jamie. You have to take care of YOU, first and foremost. Just don’t take in too much, off plan, comfort food if you are really getting sick!! Hang in there and I will just look forward to your posting, whenever you can!! Feel better soon. XO
Thanks so much! surprisingly (I don’t want to get tioo excited yet), I think I might just avoid this cold because of the vitamins!
If you gargle with warm salt water(1 tsp salt to a cup of water) and a saline nasal spray, you can often wash the germs right out and the cold will be much shorter duration. Sorry you are suffering…take care of yourself!
Thank you! Thankfully, I think the supplements are working. *fingers crossed*
