Er ners! I can feel the ticklings of the back of my throat telling me that I have a cold coming on.
This means two things: 1. copious amounts (within reason, naturally) of zinc, Cd and D3; and 2. Recipes may slow a little bit so that I can recuperate. Plus, nothing tastes right with cold, so I might not be a reliable source, either, for about a week. That said, I do have some recipes lined up, and I look forward to sharing those, too!
Because my time is limited before this cold kicks me in the nasal passages, let’s get to it.
Now what I had yesterday… First of all, here’s the plan I’m following and here is the introduction post to the Mid-Year Resolution Challenge.
While you look at what I’m doing, be sure to do your thing. I am thrilled to give some ideas, but I’m not the person you should necessarily look to for dieting advice (I’m not a paid nosh-a-titian). I am, however, here with you to cheer you on when you’re so slim you have to stand up twice to make a shadow.

I ate this:
Breakfast: 1/2 of a Radical veggie omelet and sausage patty + Diet Coke
Lunch: Noshing out on green beans (about 2/3 cup fresh-cooked) + Diet Coke
Snack: A nap! I am getting sick.
Dinner: Meatloaf I’m developing and fresh-cooked green beans. Diet Coke + C, D, Zinc
Late Night: 1 slice low-carb zucchini bread (I was hungry, so I ate)
Notes: I can tell I have a massive cold coming on and it has been wiping me out. I am hopeful healthy eating plus supplements will help me kick this bug in the butt!
Today I learned:
That I can eat some processed foods and drink diet sodas and still lose weight so long as I keep healthy fats and proteins as the bulk of calories.
Sure, maybe the occasional hot dog, sausage link or bacon might seem like junk food to some, but for millions of people out there, they’re healthy alternatives to spaghetti, fruity loopers and candy bars. It is pretty wonderful to eat a whole foods, organic diet filled with grass fed free roaming broccoli, but the fact of the matter is sometimes you have to go a little processed and not-organic to stick to the plan and to have those conveniences that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
In the 80’s we did a lot of processed foods, from Diet Coke to D-Zerta, from cheap weiners to cheap hamburger, from braunschweiger to breakfast sausages. There weren’t organics and we lived on a military retiree’s income with a family of four. Even still, I still made it to goal and stayed there for three years. My Dad, even Atkinsing on Diet Coke and fatty proteins of the cheapest order, outlived his cancer diagnosis by at least a year (diet can’t replace a lack of diagnosis, unfortunately. Miss you, Dad).
All throughout this journey you’ve heard me say I’m not perfect. You’ve heard me say that I’m only posting these menus to show what I can eat and lose weight. I eat very healthfully compared to what the food pyramid dictates, so know that sausage and hotdogs are not going away anytime soon unless I stall and find these foods need to go.
I was raised as an Atkins girl, not a perfectionist.
I applaud others’ plans, no matter how pristine or imperfect. And while I’m losing weight, I’m not going to worry too much about it. Because no matter what anyone says, I’m healthier today than I was living on noodle soups and toast.
There is time later for perfection. Today is not that day. Tomorrow’s not looking so hot either.
Do your best with what you have.

I am thinking I might be beating this thing. It’s kind of soon to tell. Hubby is laid up in bed. I am having cold sweats, but the soe throat that started yesterday is just still a tiny twinge. I am definitely going to keep taking these vitamins and see if I can beat it altogether. *fingers crossed*

Sorry that you are feeling icky! This is so nasty, but works for us. Chew up a clove of garlic but don’t swallow it. Do your best to gargle it (don’t add water) without throwing up. Then swallow. It knocks out colds every time (probably because the viruses are so grossed out by the garlic that they take off.)
Can I make a recipe development request? Einstein’s bagels has this bagel that looks like a great fall gooshiness of goodness. You could do the same without bread, or on an oopsie. But the topping is a walnut, apple, cinnamony, sugary, buttery crispy thing that looks really good.
Chayote squash is an excellent sub for apples!

it seems to me….and what do i know….nothing! but it seems you are not eating very much. Am i wrong in my thinking that it is more carbs that you count as opposed to calories? why are you eating so little? i understand not feeling well but your past days seem really slim on food! help! i love to eat!
Hi, Carol! I count carbs over calories. You’re not seeing how big my portion sizes are. I mean they’re reasonable, and I’m just not a hungry person on low carb. Couple that with my not exercising, and I just don’t eat a ton. I eat when hungry and stop when no longer hungry, so I gauge the amount of food by that measure.

Love your posts! For your cold: 1. Lay off the Diet Coke and other sodas. The acidity creates mucous. Plus the aspartame is deadly. 2. Colloidal silver spray, 3 pumps at least 3 times daily. Sovereign Silver brand has a bottle with an atomizer. 3. Astragalus root capsules, 2 caps 3 times daily until healed, then one daily for immune support during cold/flu season. NOTE: never take astragalus when a fever is present.

I like the diet coke with splenda too, but sometimes its hard to find. I also buy diet shasta and it is sweetened with splenda, so is diet rite. 🙂 I have rid myself of aspartame. sorry you are feeling poorly. get better soon. I went on a 4 day fat fast and lost 4 pounds, now I am ready to do induction. wish me luck.

Maybe that is where I go wrong! Hunger has NOTHING to do with when I eat! I am trying to pay more attention to that butthat is my biggest challenge! I appreciate your comments, LOVE your site and LOVE your recipies!! You make me laugh, and even sometimes cry. I am so glad that I found you I have tried MANY of your recipies and have really enjoyed trying new things. Also I don’t think I would have been able to stay on this plan if I had not found you, meat cheese and eggs everyday cooked the same way are very hard to stick with for long! I have lose 67 ibs in the last 6 months, I am happy about that but would be happier if I could wakeup tomorrow and be where I want to be…. isnt that all of our dreams?
